Kyle Oskvig, Senator
My name is Kyle Oskvig, I’m a senior majoring in Philosophy and Classical Languages, and I’m returning to UISG for a second year in the Senate. I’ll be continuing my service on the academic affairs committee, including further work around Iowa’s instructor evaluation procedure and student access to results. I corresponded with student governments at other universities on the subject late last year, and got a lot of good information that will help us moving forward. Also this year, I’ll be helping to explore the possibility of starting one or more undergraduate journals at Iowa, which would provide an outlet for publishing some of the great research that undergrads do here.
Outside UISG, my campus involvement is headed up by Eta Sigma Phi, the honors society for classical studies. I lead Iowa’s chapter, and hold the national presidency this year. I’m also co-president of the Hawkeye Weightlifting Club, and I sit on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council for Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Honors Program Student Advisory Council. Research involvement is another big part of what I do – after serving last year as the undergraduate representative on the search committee to hire Iowa’s new Vice President for Research and Economic Development (VPR), I’m serving this year as the undergraduate representative on the Research Council, which advises the VPR.
If you have an idea, a problem, a question or a concern for UISG that you think I might be well-suited to address, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
