Aaron Horsfield, Speaker
Aaron Horsfield is the Speaker of the Senate, elected by fellow Senators in April 2012. Aaron served in UISG as a Sophomore and an At-Large Senator for one year before being elected Speaker. As an At-Large Senator, he was elected Chair of the Community Outreach Committee where he was instrumental in the execution of the two free bacsketball games during the 2011-2012 season, the creation of Senator bloggging to create transparency, UISG Senator-Organization Liasons, as well as UISG Week. Aaron was vocal about his opinions and strived to open up honest communication and debate within the senate. This past year's Senate had one of the most active senate sessions, and this is in great part due to the initiatives Aaron sought and the legislation he pushed through. Aaron personally sponsored or co-sponsored several pieces of legislation last year and activly advocates for transparency within Student Government. Outside of UISG, Aaron has been involved with Dance Marathon and subsequently Dance Marathon the Marathon. He is also an active volunteer with Iowa City Hospice and in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinices where he holds a position on the Student Leader Board. Aaron works on research with Dr. Lucy Wibbenmeyer in the Burn Treament Center. He is a Resident Assistant within Hillcrest Hall helping incoming students become aclamated to the University. Aaron is also active member in the Greek Community as a member of Phi Kappa Psi. In his free time, Aaron enjoys rowing with the Iowa Men's Rowing Team, playing racquetball with his friends, lifting weights, running, and spending time with his family. With Aaron's vast experience on writing legislation, understanding budgets, collaborating with organizations, and being a strong voice of students, he hopes to continue the legacy of Student Government by facilitating fellow Senator's ideas into action over the course of the coming year and creating higher levels of acoutability.
