Sen. Peterson promotes diversity
I am the Senator representing students with disabilities. I have utilized Student Disability Services for the past 4 years and with my background in nursing, I feel suited to speak for students who face challenges on this campus. Feel free to contact me if there is something you'd like to see changed on this campus! I'll do my best to make it happen. I also serve on the Diversity Committee. We have many exciting things happening this semester. One of our projects we are working on now is a campaign to educate our student body to look beyond appearance and stereotypes and get to know each person before judging them. I hope this campaign will break barriers that currently exist and promote acceptance of all students, while promoting diversity-related events so that people can come together to get to know each other. There will be more information on that to come, so stay tuned!
Update from Sen. Cumming-Meininger
This past month has been my busiest month as a senator. I recently worked with Hawks Nest President Kevin Velovitch in the UISG-Hawk Nest Pre-game event before the Iowa Vs. Minnesota Basketball game on Feb. 1st. The event was a great success, as free pizza, t-shirts, and Rally towels sponsored by UISG and Hawks Nest drew a full student section for the first time at Carver-Hawkeye Arena this season. I look forward to working in collaboration with Hawks Nest this Thursday as Iowa takes on the High Ranked Wisconsin Badgers at 8pm. This event should be even bigger than the rest and really draw more outreach to the student and residential communities. After this event, I will start preparing for the upcoming UISG Senate elections as well as keeping up on my school work and preparing for midterms. As always, I am available for contact with any pressing concerns you have on campus. My office hours are on Thursdays from 1:00-2:00pm on the Second Floor of the IMU in the student org. offices or available to make appointments. Looking forward to a great semester and Go Hawks!
Interested in Running for UISG?
We are pleased to hear that you are interested in becoming a candidate in the upcoming UISG elections. Before, downloading the forms, please look over the "UISG Elections 2012" Powerpoint and "Candidate Calendar" thoroughly. This will give you an overview of the basic information you will need to become an official UISG candidate, (this is especially important if you were unable to attend the February 20th interest meeting). For now, the important thing to do is to print off the proper petition and start gathering the necessary signatures to make your candidacy official. Remember, these are due by no later than 4:00 PM on the Wednesday, March 7th deadline. Note: Legislative candidates require 75 valid undergraduate student signatures, while Executive tickets require 300 valid undergraduate signatures. These are due to the University of Iowa Box Office, first floor Iowa Memorial Union (bond submission will take place when you submit the completed petition), and all signatures will verified by the SEBC in conjunction with Office of the Registrar. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
