Textbook tax rebate information (save 7% on spring textbooks!)
Students who purchase textbooks at the University Book Store (also known as the Iowa Hawk Shop) are eligible to receive the seven percent sales tax from their purchase back through a tax refund from the State of Iowa. Only textbook purchases at the University Book Store will be refunded under the tax code of the state of Iowa. UISG is committed to reducing the cost of higher education in anyway possible. Please stop by our office (260B IMU) if you need any assistance in completing this form. Additionally, we also have free pre-printed envelopes for you to use.
Step-by-Step Guide to Receive your Textbook Tax Refund
1. Buy Your Textbooks: Purchase your textbooks at the University Book Store (also known as the Iowa Hawk Shop) located in the Old Capitol Mall. Only textbooks purchased here are eligible for the textbook tax rebate. Once you complete your purchase, remember to keep your receipt.
2. Fill Out the Tax Form: Complete the Textbook Tax Exemption form (also known as the IA 843 Claim for Refund form) and attach your receipt. Click here for instructions on how to fill out the Claim for Refund form.
3. Mail in Complete Form with Receipt: Put your completed tax refund form with the receipt in an evelope (UISG will provide free envelopes if you stop by our office in 260B IMU) and mail it all to the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance.
