UI Shared Governance Presidents' Statement
In light of the negative press regarding the University of Iowa, the Presidents of the Shared Governance Bodies feel that it is time to remember and appreciate the outstanding accomplishments of this great institution. President Mason and her administration have achieved these through their determined and skillful leadership. Under President Mason’s leadership, the University has not only survived but thrived despite a devastating flood, one of the country’s worst recessions, and consecutive years of serious budget cuts. The University is now on the verge of a remarkable rebirth of once physically devastated areas of our campus as result of her leadership and the critical support of the regents, legislators, and Governor Branstad. Retention has increased, faculty research and teaching continue to excel, and academic success continues to impress. Our University has never been more engaged in outreach and in both obvious and subtle ways the entire state of Iowa is benefited by the University’s success, as evidenced by $6 billion impact this University brings to the state. Faculty, Staff, Students, and the Administration work collaboratively to ensure that the University of Iowa maintains its outstanding reputation and remains an institution of which all Iowans can be proud. President Mason and her administration have the full support of the Faculty, Staff, and Student Officers.
